The name Century comes from the fact that the combined age of the header and heeler must total a minimum of 100 years. In 1994 the name was changed to South Century Team Ropers Association when the association registered as a society under the Society Act of Alberta. The association puts on 12 ropings per year, with a specified attendance requirement to participate in the year end finals. The teams consist of a header and a heeler working together in a sportsmanship environment and ensuring safety for all individuals and animals. The SCTRA hosts ropings, every third Saturday of the month, at various Southern Alberta host committee locations. All members enjoy the comradery of the event and it is where family members can gather together. The SCTRA has a strong membership base, and there are many individuals that enjoy watching the event and enjoy the social atmosphere of like minded individuals. The South Century Team Roping Association encourages everyone to come watch the monthly team roping events or become a member and participate.
